There are a lot of things that I would like to say to God. I want to praise and worship Him using all the words that I could think of to help me express what I feel for Him but it is not enough. Speaking in my own language, in my native language or in English, seems not to help me say everything to my Father.
Whenever I am in a state of having a deep connection with God, everything I care about my life on Earth doesn't matter anymore. During those times, I rarely tell Him what I want. I rarely pray for my petitions. My prayers are mostly telling God how much I love Him and just plainly praising Him. I know God can hear my heart every second and I know He sees what I need.
When we are praying for our petitions, I think saying it in our own language can satisfy us because we clearly know what we want. Praising God is different. Thanking Him is different. Worshipping God is different. Words aren't enough to lift up His name. Words aren't enough to help me express my love for God.
Speaking in tongues is an amazing gift from the Holy Spirit. Let's see what science can tell us about this...

Hey paige!:) I viewed your post.
Thanks for posting this:)
Yes, it is a gift and like all the other spiritual gifts, it should always be handled with care, Not to be abused/mis used, thats why to me, we all need the Spirit's wisdom and the right dscernment as we operate in these gifts.
These gifts is for the Church. To build up the Church, and to Give God ALL the Glory He deserves.
Continue to be the voice, and amplify the sound of Revival and God's wonderful works even through this blog:) for HIS glory. Blessings to you, your family and to those who visit your site;)hugs!!
Well my sister as fellow "crazy tongue" speaker! I agree with you 100%.
Sure there are some fake people out there messing up the true meaning behind it but then again isnt that always true of the enemy. Yet it is a blessed gift.
I love my prayer time and have come to sing in tongues to the Lord and the freedom I feel afterwards is not by mistake. God is good and sure you will have "naysayers" but I am not one...
If you are moved by the Holy Spirit then all is well...it is the dwelling and moving of the Holy Spirit that makes the difference. We do not control the Holy Spirit but allow Him to move us according to the will of God. I know you may have some that will shake their heads and all that jazz, but my reply is always - why not ask for the Lord to bless you so you understand and if you do not want to do that - then pray for me! AMEN!! Great post as always my sister!
I do not condemn speaking in tongues, I believe it is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit but is the most misused and abused spiritual gifts of all.
Its good to desire this gifts in order to have deep communion with God.
“One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.” -1 Corinthians 14:4
However, Paul said if in the church, “If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret; but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God.” -1 Corinthians 14:27-28
I have observed in some churches that I visit the opposite is true. They speak in tongues even though there is no interpreter. Paul said it clearly if there is no interpreter he or she must keep silent.
The Apostle Paul testified, “Thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all; however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.” -1 Corinthians 14:18-19
“…Let all things be done for edification.” –1 Corinthians 14:26
Although all that is true...let us look at this thing too...as I personally only speak in tongues during prayer and my one and one time with the Lord, not in church service and not in the center of all things.
I attend a church where speaking in tongues does happen but not where it is part of the service, there are times when you are praising God and the spirit takes over AND you are speaking with God not the congregation...I have been to other churches where someone will speak in tongues and it is part of service AND no one interprets (this is wrong), yet I have been to churches where there were those that interpret too. I think many people misunderstand the entire gift and what the purpose of it truly is and yet there are many who say they have it and do not. I think what bothers me the most is when people who do not speak in tongues tell me that because I do - I am possessed by the devil/satan - which can unnerve you sometimes. I commend my sister for bringing this topic up because so many Christians come against this gift and as stated by others because so many misuse it. It will always be a topic of discussion that I am interested in hearing from others about. I truly wonder how many have this gift and use it according to the will of the Lord. I tell you personally, my walk with the Lord took on a new meaning when I was blessed with this gift. My prayer life has changed drastically because of it and it is awesome....you are to be commended my sister as being so young and so blessed...keep moving forward in Jesus!
I speak in tongue whenever I am talking to GOd and just praising Him. I do not care what other people say about me but I admit that sometimes I get hurt. It is just that I couldn't explain it. It feels like my heart is going to burst any minute with all the words that I couldn't say to God if I try to stop the Spirit. I love God so much. I guess people just couldn't understand how much I love God no matter how hard I try to explain it to them. I prefer not to mind other people whenever they say that what I am doing is wrong because I believe that the relationship I have with Him is personal and something that I couldn't explain.
I also believe that speaking in tongue is something that you cannot control or say and do at a time that you choose, unless you fake it. It is a gift of the Holy Spirit, something that God has given you the permission to have and use for a given period of time.
When I speak in tongue, I do not talk to people, I talk to God. The conversation is between me and my Father. I speak to Him with my heart. My life had also changed because of this gift and I praise God for it.
I had also heard a lot of people who told me I was possessed. Most of the time after my conversation with God people would comfort me, tell me that God had already forgiven me nor act as if I am carrying a big problem.
I know I have sinned but I know God had already forgiven me along time ago. They are just wrong to think that I am apart with God. They are just wrong to think that I haven't seen God's love for me.
I just love GOd so much and I believe He had given me this gift to help me talk to HIm. After my conversation with my Father, I feel light, unloaded, happier and complete. That's what matters to me most.
Thank you for all your replies.
Bammy- We definitely need wisdom from God. We definitely need to be guided especially when we are leading people.
Eugene- Speaking in Tongues is something that I cannot control. When I speak in tongues, I believe that I don't need an interpreter because I am talking to God and everything is between us. I belong to the crowd of people who listens to another gifted person.
Sister Alissa- Thank you for commenting. For some reason, GOd had made me stumble on that video. It is just wonderful to see that the speech part of our brain doesn't work whenever we speak in tongue. I believe that whenever we speak in tongue it is our heart that is talking to God and that the Holy Spirit is guiding us during those times.
You go my sister - AMEN!!! Love ya and keep moving forward. I am so impressed with God and how He has impacted your life and it is inspiring to see that in such a young sister in Christ...keep that fire and do not let it die out...as long as you are with Him - it will never die out my sister - keep moving forward in Jesus! AMEN!!!
Yes i believe that speaking in tongues is a valid and legitimate gift of the Holy Spirit. You are blessed to have that from God.
If God gives you the gift of tongues, receive it and exercise it. Speak forth the syllables from your heart to God when you are alone with Him - anywhere - and especially when your heart is under pressure (through discouragement) or overflowing with joy.
This one is really a controversial issue so I also posted an entry about this one today, The Truths About Speaking In Tongues.
