The Rosary: A Fashion Statement

A lot of people today are already wearing the Rosary as part of their get up. I searched for some forums and I found out that they have 2 common opinions about it; 1. It's ok to wear it to express your faith but for fashion, it's not ok., 2. It's a jewerly. Wear it!.

hmm..I can clearly tell which statements are from which group of people. ^_^

For my own opinion, I think wearing the rosary is like mocking the beliefs of Catholics. I also doubt that a true Catholic nor a Christian would disrespect it. I also read a comment that said "why is it ok to wear the Buddhist beads and not the Rosary?"; I think it is because the Buddhist beads are meant to be worn and the Rosary is not.

The Roman Catholic Church states: "Sacred objects, set aside for divine worship by dedication or blessing, are to be treated with reverence. They are not to be made over to secular or inappropriate use, even though they may belong to private persons".

We do have our own ways of showing our faith and love for Jesus and for Catholics, praying the rosary is one. Praying the rosary strengthens our faith and help us to meditate the promises of Christ. And even though some Christians question our ways, I still believe that none of them would wear it like it is just a jewerly. I believe that they respect us. I also strongly believe that the most important thing and the only thing that would erase our differences is our love for Jesus-the Son of God, our Savior.

Anyway, enough of my thoughts! I want to hear from you... ^_^

what a wonderful post! Thank you. I rejoice over you. The Rosary is not a jewelry. That's for sure so.
Unfortunately, we face lots of false prophets (the growth of the Pharisee-ness) today. Many don't succeed to move beyond the religious symbols - into the world of prayer - and thus scold at themselves - you remind that, but do that so politely , without any offensive note. It was great to meet with you.
I am sorry just for the hard style of my wiritng, because it was so hard to talk plainly while writing in foreign language - I just pick up English words from my Lithuanian -English dictionary and hope for you will sense my heart in the mixture of all the above

I don't think that symbols such as the rosary and the statues is wrong but always varies on how the person take it. For me, I don't worship the things but it is like showing what I believe and how strong is my faith.

I also think that it is all about respect but I don't have anything against the people who wears it. The only thing that people needs to see in me is that I am a Christian and I chose the way of Catholics to strengthen my faith.

Thank you for the comment Tomas! I really appreciate it.

I won't wear it even for fashion statement.

Exodus 20:4-5
"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me."

I'm under Christ not under Law, but it is also said do not be the cause to be a stumbling block to others.

Wearing of a Rosary that one actually uses to pray is neither uncommon nor sacrilegious in various Roman Catholic-adherent cultures

I find it offensive to wear the rosary and am saddened it has become a statement of fashion. The rosary is meant for deep reflection and prayer. I only hope that those who wear it will be transformed by having such a sacred object so close to their hearts.

I've noticed that many people that wear rosaries aren't even Catholic. It's very sickening. I would never wear a hijab or yamacca because "it looked cool." No religious objects should be misused regardless of faith. If I see some obnoxious hipster wearing a rosary I'll give em' a piece of my mind. Vanity is after all a sin.

The only exception: healing. When I was young a boy I knew got a injury to his neck while playing soccer. He wore the rosary and with prayer he healed quickly. But you have to pray the rosary as well. And you wear the rosary under your clothes, not over them. :)

Is it ok to wear the Rosary as protection against evil? I'm a Christian and I believe in evil spirits and demons.

your intention and beliefs behind wearing the rosary is the most important thing. I don't think we believe merely on the thing but the Greater One who is represented by these symbols.

Idols is in the Bible but as well as instruments that has been used and blessed by God to protect, heal, guide and help us.
